SAN ANSELMO — Police in Marin County have arrested a suspected car thief who stole the car of a woman who had stopped to help him after he crashed his car.

The Marin Independent Journal reports (http://bayareane.ws/1FPhx56) the woman told police she stopped at the crash scene to see if she could help. A man who was in the wrecked vehicle then jumped into the woman's car and drove off.

Marin County sheriff's Lt. Rudy Yamanoha say police spotted the stolen car hours later and gave chase until the driver lost control and crashed the stolen car.

The man ran off but Marin sheriff's deputies and police from Fairfax, San Rafael, Central Marin and Ross all descended on the neighborhood to search for him.

A search dog found the suspect hiding in a San Anselmo neighborhood early Tuesday.
