The undefeated North Bay Rattlers semi-pro football team faces perhaps its biggest challenge of the season Saturday in Sacramento against the second-place River City Royals.

The Rattlers look to stay unbeaten through six games. The Royals are tied with two other teams at 4-1.

Founded in 1995, the Rattlers play in the Pacific Coast Football League and boast a roster of mostly local athletes who played football in high school, junior college, major universities or even some former pro players.

Through five games, the defending champion Rattlers are averaging 55 points a game. Defensively, they have shut down the competition, allowing just 43 total points, or 8.6 per game.

The past three wins have been cakewalks: 70-6, 69-0 and 76-0.

Saturday’s game begins at 4 p.m. at River City High School.

The team next plays at home on May 16.
