Pedestrian struck, badly injured in downtown Petaluma

Police urge motorists to avoid downtown intersection.|

Police say a pedestrian was struck by a car and seriously injured in downtown Petaluma on Thursday night.

Fire personnel said the victim in the 5:16 p.m. incident reportedly was an elderly man.

Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area of Petaluma Boulevard North and East Washington Street, though it was unclear exactly where the man was hit.
