Petaluma police were investigating a report that a middle-aged man followed a student outside Casa Grande High School.

The 17-year-old student described the man as white and around age 50, 6 feet tall with a thin build and black-and-white hair, Petaluma police officials said. He was wearing a black leather jacket and dark jeans.

On Thursday, the girl saw the man standing on the sidewalk near where she parked on Ely Boulevard South in front of the school. She said the man was staring at her and made her uncomfortable, police said.

The man tried to talk with her when she got out of the car and briefly followed her when she walked away through the student parking lot, according to police. The girl went straight to class and told her teacher.

The school grounds were searched but officials didn’t find a man matching that description.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case call Officer Patrick Gerke at 781-1225.
