Santa Rosa man killed trying to escape tipping excavator in Glen Ellen

The employee of a swimming pool construction company was killed Monday afternoon when he tried to escape from an excavator as it was tipping over at a Glen Ellen property, authorities said.

Cody McBride, 23, of Santa Rosa was killed in the accident, according to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office.

The Glen Ellen Fire Department was called at 3:16 p.m. to the site of the accident, at 13700 Garric Ave., according to a Redcom emergency supervisor.

McBride, an employee of A Plus Pool and Spa, was operating an excavator when it started to tip over, the Redcom supervisor said. He then tried to jump outside the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

Cal/OSHA is conducting an investigation into the accident to determine if there were any violations in labor laws.
