Rohnert Park police Wednesday were investigating a report that a man grabbed and groped a woman along a creek path in the city.

The woman told authorities she was walking on the north end of Copeland Creek path just west of Seed Farm Drive at about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a man she did not know jumped out behind her, wrapping his arms around her, Sgt. Jeff Justice said.

The man began rubbing her thighs and crotch, but she fought him off and the man ran west on the path, Justice said.

The man was described as a white man in his 20s with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing a baseball hat, white T-shirt, gray shorts and a small black backpack.

Police warned the public to be watchful on the Copeland Creek path and asked that anyone who spots a person matching that description call the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department’s dispatch center at 584-2611. Anyone with information about the case can call the investigations team at 584-2630.
