Events marking Memorial Day around Sonoma County
MONDAY
Calistoga: American Legion Post 231 will hold its annual ceremony honoring Civil War veterans at 9 a.m. at Pioneer Cemetery on Foothill Boulevard. Then, they will hold a traditional Memorial Day ceremony at the veterans memorial in Logvy Community Park, 1401 N. Oak St., at 11 a.m.
Cloverdale: Dedication of the new Cloverdale Veterans Memorial begins at 10 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Crocker Road. Call 894-5603 for info.
Healdsburg: The American Legion Sotoyome Post 111 will hold a 30-minute service at 10 a.m. at Oak Mound cemetery, 601 Piper St.
Petaluma: The annual Memorial Day event honoring all veterans starts at 11 a.m. at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, 430 Magnolia Ave. It includes the Avenue of the Flags, speeches and a color guard.
Rohnert Park: Veterans will hold the 29th annual Avenue of the Flags beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Rohnert Park Community Center, 5401 Snyder Lane. A Color Guard ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.
Santa Rosa: Local veterans groups hold an Avenue of the Flags celebration at 10 a.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Park at 1900 Franklin Ave. with 1,000 casket flags. Event lasts until 3 p.m. Next door at the Franklin Avenue gate of Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, a ceremony commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War beginning at noon.
Sonoma: The 57th Sonoma Valley Joint Memorial Day Observance, a celebration coordinated by numerous veterans’ organizations in Sonoma Valley, starts at 11 a.m. at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park, 126 First St. West. Events include a grand march, a keynote address by Vietnam veteran Rep. Mike Thompson, an aerial flyover and patriotic music performed by The Sonoma Hometown Band.
