SAN FRANCISCO — Humboldt County authorities have identified remains found in a Northern California river as that of a woman missing for more than a year.

Danielle Bertolini was 23 years old when she was reported missing in February 2014.

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Lt. Wayne Hanson confirmed Thursday that a skull found in a river in March belongs to Bertolini.

Bertolini moved from Bangor, Maine to Fortuna, California. Her family launched a media campaign to find her, along with another woman who went missing around the same time.

Hanson said the DNA was confirmed by the state Department of Justice and that the investigation continues. No arrests have been made.
