Santa Rosa mother sent to prison for crash that injured children

A Santa Rosa woman was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in state prison for the harm she caused her young children while driving under the influence of several drugs, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Christina Ann Curtis, 30, pleaded no contest in May to a number of charges stemming from an Aug. 20 crash that left her 8-year-old and 10-year-old children unconscious and caused one child to suffer a broken jaw and the loss of five teeth. Neither child was wearing a seatbelt at the time, District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a press release. Santa Rosa police tested Curtis and found her to be under the influence of hydrocodone, methadone and methamphetamine, she added.

“This case is a tragic example of the danger everyone faces by those who make the choice to drive under the influence of drugs,” Ravitch said.

Curtis’ children were injured when she crashed a truck into a pole near the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and First Street, Ravitch said.

Curtis pleaded no contest to a felony violation of driving under the influence of a drug causing great bodily injury; child endangerment; child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury; driving on a suspended license; and possession of methamphetamine.
