The identity of an 11-year-old boy who died this week, five days after he was shot in the backyard of a south Ukiah home, was revealed Friday by Mendocino County sheriff’s officials.

Antonio Rodriguez-Victor, who lived in Oakland, was shot June 18 and taken off life support Tuesday, sheriff’s Capt. Greg Van Patten said.

The suspected shooter, Jaime Rodriguez, 19, of Ukiah, was waving a loaded gun around the boy and another youth when it discharged, according to one account provided to investigators. Rodriguez-Victor was struck in the face and neck area at near point-blank range.

Rodriguez faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter, with a special allegation that he personally used a firearm, said Mike Geniella, spokesman for the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office. If convicted, he faces a maximum of four years in jail.
