Separate fires burn pickup, dry brush in Healdsburg

Healdsburg firefighters battled two fires early Tuesday.

Investigators were still analyzing what caused a pickup to ignite at about 5:30 a.m., Healdsburg Fire Capt. Mack Montanye said. The blaze started in the bed of a Toyota pickup parked in a carport next to a garage at a home on Terrace Boulevard. The flames spread to the adjacent garage, but firefighters stopped the fire’s spread and only a portion of a garage wall and ceiling were damaged, Montanye said.

Then at 7:13 a.m., firefighters were called to a vegetation fire on Foreman Lane near the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Arcing power lines had set fire to a tree and dry brush, Montanye said.

Workers at the treatment plant began spraying the fire with treated water while firefighters were on the way, the captain said. The fire burned about 100 feet of brush before it was extinguished.
