Man suspected of shooting prostitute at Rohnert Park motel has long criminal record

The man suspected in the July 2 shooting of a prostitute at a Rohnert Park motel has been convicted in the past on charges including sexual battery and false imprisonment.|

One of two aspiring Santa Rosa Junior College football players held in the shooting of a prostitute has an “extensive” juvenile rap sheet that includes convictions for sexual battery, assault and false imprisonment, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Ronnie Paul Threadgill, 22, amassed the record in San Francisco from 2006 to 2010, according to court documents.

In addition to his convictions, he’s been arrested but not charged in other cases, prosecutor Keith Shaw said.

“He has an extensive, violent criminal history,” Shaw said.

The prosecutor sought a bail increase from $1 million to ?$2.5 million at Threadgill’s arraignment. Judge Shelly Averill declined but added $100,000 to the amount for a separate pending Sonoma County case in which Threadgill is accused of embezzling from an employer.

Bail for a man suspected of being an accomplice to the shooting, Threadgill’s roommate, Koa Sibley, 19, remained at $500,000.

Outside court, Threadgill’s family declined to comment. Sibley’s relatives said they didn’t believe the Ukiah High School graduate was capable of such violence.

“He’s a really good kid,” said Logo Tevaseu, who identified himself as Sibley’s uncle.

Both men were arrested Friday in the July 2 incident at Motel 6 in Rohnert Park.

Threadgill is accused of shooting a 24-year-old Sacramento woman he paid to have sex with and of hitting her suspected pimp. She is expected to survive. Sibley is accused of being a getaway driver.

The night of the shooting, the men were questioned by police and released after they drove from a nearby fast-food restaurant.

It wasn’t until detectives reviewed footage from a surveillance camera that they began considering the men suspects.

A car in the tape matched the Toyota they were driving, and Threadgill was seen in photos wearing glasses like those found at the scene, police said.

Prosecutors charged Threadgill with attempted murder and assault. Sibley is charged with being an accessory. He faces unrelated drug possession charges.

Both return to court Thursday for further proceedings.

Threadgill and Sibley were among 130 people enrolled in Santa Rosa Junior College’s summer football camp weightlifting and conditioning course.

Neither was on the team, head coach Lenny Wagner said.

He said he was unaware of Threadgill’s criminal history even though he had participated in preseason training before.

“I was shocked,” Wagner said. ?“He just does not seem like he’s got it in him. The other kid, the same thing.”

Threadgill’s father was executed in Texas in 2013 for killing a man during a carjacking.

Prospective athletes are not required to divulge arrest records until they attend an eligibility meeting in August, Wagner said.

Even then, the information is self-reported and not checked against police records, Wagner said.

“We can’t run everybody’s names to see if they are telling the truth,” Wagner said. “But we’re working with the police to develop some kind of system.”
