Lane closures scheduled on Highway 101 in Petaluma
Petaluma-area drivers should be ready for some big changes at the Petaluma River Bridge on Highway 101 as Caltrans completes work on the northbound lanes of the new bridge and prepares to move traffic onto them.
The northbound lanes of the existing bridge will be closed for six hours on the night of July 20, from 11 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, as workers pour concrete for the new bridge, a Caltrans spokesman said. Northbound drivers will have to take a detour, exiting at Petaluma Boulevard South and taking D Street to Lakeville Street to return to Highway 101.
Caltrans also is gearing up to redirect northbound traffic off the old bridge and onto the new bridge in early to mid-August and at the same time move southbound traffic into the lanes northbound traffic currently is using. This will require a roughly two-month closure of the existing southbound offramp to Petaluma Boulevard South while a new one is being built. Drivers needing to access Petaluma Boulevard South during that time will take a detour on Highway 116.
