Bulldozers and hand crews appear to be slowly getting the upper hand on the Wragg wildfire southeast of Lake Berryessa, which was burning 6,591 acres Sunday night, Cal Fire officials said.

Though progress is slowed by steep and rugged terrain, the fire was 65 percent contained on Sunday night, and all road closures and evacuation orders had been lifted, Cal Fire said. The Lake Solano campground is closed due to fire equipment access.

The fire began Wednesday afternoon when a woman driving a burning vehicle pulled over on Highway 128 near Wragg Canyon Road in Napa County. The flames quickly spread to nearby brush alongside the road.

Cal Fire reported Sunday that the blaze destroyed a water supply wellhead and other minor structures. A walnut orchard also sustained damage, and two vehicles were destroyed.

More than 1,400 firefighters and other personnel were engaged Sunday night in battling the fire. They were using 100 engines, 10 helicopters, 16 water tenders and 11 bulldozers.

Also Sunday, a wildland fire that broke out in the city of Clearlake forced the evacuation of the Cache Creek Apartments on Dam Road and damaged three structures. The fire, which consumed about 10 acres, was reported at about 4 p.m.

Residents were expected to be allowed back into their homes by 10 p.m. Sunday, Cal Fire said.
