Authorities were searching Monday night for a possible drowning victim in the Russian River in the area of Sunset Beach.

Family members of the man, who reported him missing, gathered at the beach late Monday as the search for him got underway, according to Steve Baxman, chief of the Monte Rio Fire Department.

Baxman said the man had been missing for about two hours by the time the search team assembled at the beach near Forestville at about 8:45 p.m.

He said the search included the use of underwater cameras and a CHP helicopter. The search was being led by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Two people have died in Sonoma County waterways this year, both on the Fourth of July.
