A 27-year-old Santa Rosa man gunned down outside his family’s townhome off West Steele Lane in Santa Rosa was identified Thursday as Jesus Daniel Sanchez Bastidas, police officials said.

Police were still searching for the man who shot Bastidas, who was found dying on the sidewalk at about 7:25 a.m. Wednesday by neighbors. They said they heard about a half-dozen gunshots followed by a woman’s scream. Police and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, but were unable to revive him, officials said.

Police said that the gunman may have been waiting for Bastidas, who had just returned to his car, which he parked at a curb in a rear parking area at the townhouse complex near Apple Valley Lane.

The shooter was seen running away west toward Apple Valley Lane, Sgt. Dave Linscomb said. Police had few details about the shooter, who was described as a man in his twenties with a “darker complexion.”
