A fire at a Petaluma home Saturday night that ignited in the garage threatened to spread throughout the house, but firefighters were able to contain most of the blaze in about 10 minutes.

Two residents who live at the home on Prince Albert Street escaped the 5 p.m. fire. It caused $80,000 in damage, according to Jeff Schach, a Petaluma fire battalion chief.

Seven units responded and firefighters remained on the scene for two and a half hours to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Most of the residents’ possessions in the garage were damaged, and the fire caused smoke damage throughout the house.

Crews are still investigating the cause, but it could be linked to a tripped circuit breaker, Schach said in a news release.

No one was injured.
