The CHP has identified the victim of a fatal motor home crash outside of Petaluma on Sunday as Todd Kneeland, 46, of Sonoma.

Authorities are still trying to determine what led to the fiery crash on Highway 116/Stage Gulch Road near Adobe Road, though it appeared Kneeland’s vehicle caught fire before smashing into a hillside near the intersection, they said.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m., left a trail of debris, including a door and a window, as well as about 250 feet of skidmarks leading up to the crash site.

Kneeland became trapped inside the burning vehicle, which was completely engulfed in flames, preventing passersby from getting him out.
