CHP: Santa Rosa man tries, fails to outrun officer in chase

A Santa Rosa man wanted in Sonoma County on two arrest warrants led a CHP officer on a high-speed chase along west Marin County rural roads before pulling over and getting arrested at gunpoint, the CHP said.

Tuesday’s chase reached speeds of 100 mph along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard as the driver passed other vehicles by crossing double yellow lines, according to CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.

The pursuit ended on the major boulevard when driver Jason Brown, 43, stopped and was taken into custody by the pursuing officer, Will Thompson.

A check on the driver’s criminal history showed Brown was wanted on a no-bail warrant for violating his probation involving domestic violence. A second warrant had been issued for his arrest for violating probation on a drug possession conviction.

Officer Thompson added felony evading an officer in a reckless manner to the arrest and took Brown to the Marin County Jail.

The pursuit began at about 10:10 a.m. on Nicasio Valley Road when the officer spotted a black Chevrolet Tahoe speeding well above the 55 mph limit and attempted to stop the driver, Barclay said.

The Tahoe driver sped off and the CHP officer turned on his lights and siren and went after him. The chase slowed at Nicasio Square but the Tahoe driver lost control and briefly ran off of the roadway before continuing south toward Lucas Valley Road. The chase headed on to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard where the chase speed reached triple digits along the straight areas.
