A driver changing lanes on Highway 101 south of Willits clipped another vehicle as he passed, causing a rollover crash in which he and a passenger were injured, CHP officials said.

Vergil Berry, 75, and Flora Berry, 64, of Carson City, Nev., were taken to separate hospitals after suffering what were described as moderate injuries, Ukiah-area CHP officials said.

The crash occurred at about noon Wednesday on southbound Highway 101 just past Willits. Berry was driving a 1997 Jeep when he began merging left into another lane, causing the back of the Jeep to clip the front of a 2002 Ford, the CHP said.

The impact caused the Jeep to veer out of control, crashing into the center median and careening across the northbound lanes, officials said. The Jeep crashed into a guardrail and overturned several times.

Vergil Berry was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits. Flora Berry was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Ford, 74-year-old Harriet Outhuse of Torrance, was uninjured, according to the CHP.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation.
