CHP: DUI driver hits power pole, drops lines, closes Petaluma road

Repairs along Pepper Road were expected to take all day, according to a public works official.|

The CHP arrested a Petaluma man, suspecting him of drunken driving, following his crash into a power pole off of Pepper Road.

The middle-of-the-night impact into the large pole knocked down power lines onto the rural route north of Bodega Avenue in the Two Rock area. Repairs were expected to take a PG&E crew until about 4 p.m. Monday and a section of the road was closed for the duration.

Officers arrested Jay Barker, 54, after the 1:30 a.m. Pepper Road crash, according to the CHP. Barker reportedly wasn’t injured and was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

The road closure was between Walker Road and Bodega Avenue. A detour was set along Walker Road to Valley Ford Road.

The downed lines caused a loss of power to nine customers, according to PG&E.
