Man slain at site of former homeless camp in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A man was fatally stabbed at the site of a former San Jose homeless encampment that was deemed the nation's largest before its closure late last year.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1Fg1V5W ) Tuesday that the victim's name and age were not immediately released.

The man was found by a passerby Monday night near shrubbery in Central San Jose. The area was the site of The Jungle encampment that city officials had cleared out in December.

Officers and paramedics arrived about 10 p.m. Monday, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later determined he had been stabbed.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.

In early December, officials cleared out the last of roughly 200 people who had been living in The Jungle encampment.
