Man killed at Mendocino County pot garden identified

Authorities have released the name of a man shot dead last month in a pot garden.|

A man found dead near a large, remote marijuana garden in Yorkville on Sept. 27 has been identified as Marcos Bautista, 43, of Cloverdale, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The man found seriously wounded the same day in the same area was identified as Edgar Fidel Contreras, 25, of Windsor. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and of killing Bautista.

Two other men previously were arrested in connection with the homicide.

Isidro Lopez-Bernal, 26, of Ukiah and Mario Godinez, 25, of Cloverdale already were being held in the county jail on suspicion of robbery and murder.

Bautista died of multiple gunshot wounds in the vicinity of the 200-plant garden, which was apparently cultivated on private property without the owner’s knowledge, sheriff’s authorities have said.
