A home in the southwest corner of Petaluma was damaged by fire Thursday night, the Petaluma Fire Department said.

The department dispatched all its available firefighting assets to the blaze, reported at 7:34 p.m. on Lone Oak Court, a cul-de-sac off East Sunnyslope Road, Battalion Chief Jeff Schach said.

Firefighters found the front of the house in flames that extended into the living room, but they had the fire under control by 8 p.m. Mopping-up work, which included pulling down the ceiling and part of the roof over the living room to extinguish the fire completely, continued into the night, Schach said.

About a quarter of the house was destroyed, he said.

Nobody was home when the fire broke out, apparently in the front porch area. The cause was undetermined, Schach said.

Firefighters retrieved some belongings for a resident who returned while the fire was burning. The man was going to spend the night at a neighbor’s house, Schach said.

Petaluma was assisted by the Rancho Adobe, San Antonio, Wilmar and Rohnert Park fire departments as well as Cal Fire.
