Petaluma house fire causes $150,000 damage

An investigation into what caused the Petaluma fire continued Tuesday, but it appeared to be accidental, a fire official said.|

An electrical malfunction or discarded cigarettes could be the cause of a fire that late last week burned a large section of a southwest Petaluma home, according to Petaluma’s fire marshal.

Cary Fergus said he still was investigating the Lone Oak Court house fire, but it appeared to be accidental and while he hadn’t homed in on a specific cause, an electrical issue or cigarettes remained possibilities.

Thursday night’s Lone Oak fire burned about one-quarter of the home, causing an estimated $150,000 damage.

Firefighters were called at 7:34 p.m. and arrived to find the front of the house ablaze. Fire officials determined the fire started in the area of the front porch.

Six fire departments responded to the fire, off of East Sunnyslope Road.
