Three vehicles collide, block major Napa County highway

Two major crashes in 90 minutes Tuesday morning temporarily blocked key Napa County highways, caused multiple injuries and extensive traffic backups.|

Traffic backed up extensively late Tuesday morning from a multiple-vehicle Napa County crash on Highway 29 at Highway 221, according to the CHP.

The 11:15 a.m. crash blocked northbound Highway 29, south of Highway 221, involved three vehicles, including one which rolled several times, the CHP said.

Two people were injured, according to initial reports. The lanes were cleared after about one hour.

Traffic was backed up into nearby Jameson Canyon and the CHP issued an alert warning drivers the area was bogged down with stopped traffic. The intersection brings together the area’s main routes, connecting Sonoma County to Napa County and on to Highway 80.

An SUV, a mini van and a Ford F-150 pickup reportedly were involved. The truck had major front-end damage.

The vehicle that rolled ended up on its side in the center divider, the CHP said.

At least one ambulance was responding but the extent of injuries wasn’t initially available.

By about 11:45 a.m. traffic was filtering around the wreck along the Highway 29 right shoulder and by 12:15 p.m. the wreckage was cleared, the CHP said.

This crash occurred nearby - and about 90 minutes after - another major collision on Highway 221, which led to traffic problems. That crash, involving a Napa city bus and a Nissan Altima, and multiple injured people, occurred just north, at Kaiser Road.
