SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police say the suicide of a man who jumped to his death at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis and the assault of a female hotel worker found in a luxury suite are being investigated as related incidents.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1ZBL4qA) the city's medical examiner's office identified 26-year-old Alexander Damhuis of Brooklyn, New York as the hotel guest who committed suicide Sunday morning.

San Francisco Police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said Tuesday that hours after the suicide police found a female hotel employee in a penthouse suite of the hotel suffering from life-threatening injuries. She is at a hospital in critical condition.

Gatpandan says that while searching the penthouse where the housekeeper was discovered, officers found evidence linking the assault to Damhuis' suicide. She declined to specify what the evidence was because of the ongoing investigation.
