A suspected drunken driver crashed into a parked 18-wheeler before dawn in Lakeport Wednesday, apparently fleeing the scene of the crash with a passenger despite their injuries, until officers found them nearby, Lake County CHP officials said.

Kevin Hermo, 23, of Kelseyville and his unidentified 24-year-old passenger were airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after the 2 a.m. crash on North Main Street near Ninth Street in Lakeport, police said.

Hermo was driving north in a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when the SUV left its lane, veered across the southbound lane and smashed into the parked 18-wheeler truck at an estimated 40 mph, officials said. Hermo and his passenger left the scene, and another person reported the crash, police said.

Officers heading to the crash were diverted to a disturbance outside the Anchorage Inn about a block away from the crash. Hermo and the passenger, who both appeared to be intoxicated, were outside with visible injuries and blood on their skin and clothing, according to police. Officers later found two pounds of marijuana in the Trail Blazer.

Hermo was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital where he was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving causing injury and hit-and-run with injury, then released to the hospital for treatment, police said.
