CHP officers suspect a Healdsburg man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he crashed his car into a tree early Tuesday, injuring his two passengers.

Officers arrested Augustin Carranza Jr., 19, following the 2:30 a.m. crash on Eastside Road near Old Redwood Highway, Officer Steve Fricke said Tuesday.

The three got out of the sedan just before it caught fire, Central Fire acting Battalion Chief Rob Bisordi said. “They were very lucky.”

The two passengers were taken by a Bells ambulance crew to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries initially wasn’t clear.
