Missing UC Berkeley student could be on North Coast

Grad student said to be depressed, suicidal and headed for Bodega Bay.|

Bay Area law enforcement officials are searching for a missing University of California, Berkeley student who may have been headed for Bodega Bay in early Thursday morning.

Berkeley police said Shuqin Zhang, 22, was last seen in Berkeley on Jan. 7 at 1:30 a.m. She may have left for Bodega Bay at 3:40 a.m., according to a police statement.

Zhang is described as an Asian female with black hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 90 pounds. She wears glasses and may have been wearing a greenish blue hooded sweatshirt.

Zhang was is a graduate student who was reportedly “depressed and out of character lately. Recent events suggest she could be suicidal,” the police statement said. She was to fly to China Friday morning but did not board her flight, police said.

Zhang owns a white 2003 Mercedes C250 with a California license plate of 6SFE299.

Police ask that anyone with information about Zhang please call 911 or contact local police officials.
