A train struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday in Orange County, authorities said.

The unidentified man was struck by a southbound Amtrak train shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Avery Parkway and Camino Capistrano, according to Lt. Dan Dwyer of the Sheriff's Department. The tracks are behind chain link fencing in an industrial area.

Investigators are looking into the possibility of suicide, Dwyer said.

"The victim was seen sitting on the track when the train approached," he said.

Trains in both directions were delayed. The northbound track reopened by 5 p.m. but the southbound side remained closed as the investigation continued.
