CHP officers Tuesday night arrested a Marin County man suspected of being extremely intoxicated after he crashed near Monte Rio.

Travis Bertram, 35, was found unconscious inside his red Mercedes SUV, which apparently had drifted off Highway 116 and crashed into a redwood tree, according to CHP Officer Kerri Post.

The crash was reported at about 9:50 p.m. and happened near Monte Cristo Avenue.

As well as being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, officers arrested Bertram on suspicion he had a blood-alcohol level of higher than 0.15 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.

He was taken to a hospital to be checked for injuries and then booked into the Sonoma County Jail. Bertram remained in custody Wednesday morning with bail set at $50,000.
