A Petaluma man remained in the Sonoma County Jail Tuesday morning after he was found to be driving while intoxicated at a level of almost five times the legal limit, according to Petaluma police.

Officers arrested Chris Schropp, 27, Monday after they were called at about 2:30 a.m. about a possible crash on East Washington Street, according to a police press release.

Officers found Schropp behind the wheel of his car and while they learned there had been no crash, they could tell he appeared to be drunk, police said.

The man couldn’t complete sobriety tests and a preliminary test showed his blood-alcohol percentage level was 0.38. The legal limit for a driver is 0.08.

He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and when he was being booked into the jail, he was found to be carrying an undisclosed amount of cocaine, according to police. Schropp then was arrested on suspicion of possessing the illegal drug and possessing it in a jail. Bail was set at $20,000.
