Sonoma County 5th District supervisor candidates to appear at forums

Five contenders hope to be the one to replace Efren Carrillo for 5th District Sonoma County supervisor|

With the race to replace Efren Carrillo for 5th District Sonoma County supervisor less than two months away, community and political groups are organizing a host of candidates’ forums in the coming weeks.

The next is a forum in Bodega Bay on April 22. Five candidates will take questions from a group of neighbors from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Bodega Bay Grange, at 1370 Bodega Ave.

The candidates are Noreen Evans, an attorney and former state senator; Lynda Hopkins, a farmer and political newcomer; Tim Sergent, a special education teacher at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa; Tom Lynch, a county planning commissioner; and Marion Chase, a county social services worker.

The League of Women Voters will host another forum on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Graton Community Clubhouse at 8996 Graton Road, Graton.

Three other forums are scheduled later this month. Candidates are expected to take questions about housing, roads, pensions, winery events and more.

The Sonoma County Lodging Association will question candidates running for 1st and 5th District candidates from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 28 at the Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa in Santa Rosa.

Another forum for the 5th District candidates, hosted by the neighborhood group Preserve Rural Sonoma County, is scheduled on April 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The group Save our Sonoma Roads will hold a forum on May 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Hessel Grange Hall, at 5400 Blank Road, Sebastopol.
