An early Wednesday morning crash on Highway 101 in northern Marin County jammed up commute traffic after a collision that left an SUV on its side in the carpool lane, according to the CHP.

The 6:50 a.m. crash was in the southbound lanes, just south of Rowland Boulevard in Novato. What led the SUV to overturn wasn’t yet clear, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.

It was partially in the traffic lane and the center divider, and about an hour after the crash an attempt was underway to get it onto its wheels and cleared away.

An ambulance responded but the driver apparently wasn’t injured.

Traffic was backed up into northern Novato for at least an hour, according to the CHP.
