A 32-year-old woman wanted in a police battery case was arrested in downtown Sebastopol after officers found her driving a stolen pickup, according to Sebastopol police.

Officers were alerted to the woman at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday when a caller said she’d heard the driver of an orange truck yelling for help.

They spotted the truck downtown and tried to stop the driver, but she continued driving, including going south on northbound Petaluma Avenue, police said.

She finally stopped in a parking lot. Officers reported she was talking incoherently but they determined she’d stolen the truck after going through vehicles on North Street in Santa Rosa.

The woman, believed to be a transient, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

Officers learned she’d given a false name and her real name was Rachel Rose Ackerman, who was wanted on a $10,000 arrest warrant involving battery on an officer and resisting arrest.

Ackerman remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $20,000 bail.
