Video shows two Bay Area sheriff's deputies beating man, stealing his gold necklace
SAN FRANCISCO - Newly released, enhanced surveillance footage from the brutal beating of a man in a San Francisco alley by Alameda County sheriff's deputies late last year has revealed new evidence against the deputies.
KPIX-TV reports (http://cbsloc.al/1rBYJlk) Thursday that San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi has released video showing a deputy twirling something shiny - believed to be the victim's gold chain - around in his hand. The deputies stand accused of stealing the chain to give to a homeless man to keep him quiet about the beating.
Two sheriff's deputies were caught on surveillance video striking Stanislav Petrov more than 40 times with steel batons after a foot chase into a dark alley last November. Three deputies are on paid administrative leave in connection with the incident.
None of the deputies has been charged with any crimes.
Petrov was seriously injured.
