A blaze destroyed a Hidden Valley Lake home near Middletown early Saturday morning, Cal Fire said.

A resident who was woken up by his dogs called firefighters to the home on the 18000 block of Stonegate Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. to report the fire, Cal Fire spokesman Will Powers said.

The 3,000-square foot home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived, Powers said. The fire threatened two homes on either side of the residence, he said.

Crews stopped the flames before they spread to the nearby homes, but the main house could not be saved, Powers said. The resident and his pets escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said. About 80 percent of the home was destroyed, though an estimate of monetary loss wasn’t available Saturday, he said.

Two dozen personnel from Cal Fire, South Lake County Fire, Lake County Fire and Northshore Fire responded, Powers said. The fire was controlled within 30 minutes, and crews remained on scene for several hours to mop up.
