SAN FRANCISCO - Five people in San Francisco are on the ninth day of a hunger strike, saying they won't eat until San Francisco's police chief is fired or resigns.

The San Francisco Examiner reports Friday (http://bit.ly/249mYIB ) that the strikers include a grandmother and two rappers. They have been dubbed the "Frisco Five."

They started fasting April 21 outside the city's Mission District police station.

They are protesting two recent shooting deaths of minorities by police, as well as a pair of racist and homophobic texting scandals involving officers.

This month, police officers killed a homeless 45-year-old Latino man they say was advancing on them with a knife. In December, officers killed a 26-year-old African American man, saying that he refused to drop a knife.

Police Chief Greg Suhr says he's not resigning.
