The Windsor man stabbed Tuesday night at the Lakeport Safeway suffered wounds in his torso, neck and head, police said.

Lakeport police would not release the man’s name Wednesday afternoon, but Detective Dale Stoebe, who is handling the investigation, said he believed the man had been released from the Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Stoebe said when he interviewed the man at the hospital after the attack, the victim was just finishing having his wounds stitched.

The man was taken to the hospital by an unknown “good Samaritan” before police arrived at the Safeway just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Stoebe said the 30-year-old victim suffered between three and five stab wounds, none considered life-threatening.

“The attack was sudden and, by his report, unprovoked,” Stoebe said. “He got pretty lucky.”

The man told police that he wasn’t sure how many people were involved in the attack, but it was between two and four assailants.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Lakeport Police Department at 263-5491.
