A Lake County supervisor ran a red light near Lakeport Tuesday evening, crashing his truck into another driver’s vehicle, according to the CHP.

Supervisor Rob Brown, 55, suffered minor injuries. The other driver, Elisa McCracken, 46, suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash, which occurred at the intersections of highways 29 and 175 at about 6:20 p.m., the CHP said. Both Brown and McCracken are from Kelseyville.

McCracken was turning left onto Highway 175 when Brown’s truck, headed south, failed to stop and smashed into her Toyota, the CHP said. McCracken was taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport for treatment.

Brown said he phoned McCracken, who he knows, to see how she was doing. She was bruised up but recovering at home on Wednesday, Brown said.

“I feel bad,” the supervisor said.

Brown said he had reached down to pick up his water bottle from the floor and when he looked up the light had changed and it was too late to avoid the collision.

“I just feel like an idiot,” he said.

CHP officers still are investigating but officials said alcohol or drugs didn’t appear to be involved.

The crash closed southbound Highway 29 at the intersection for about 30 minutes.

Brown is up for re-election in June.
