A bicyclist was seriously injured Saturday in downtown Santa Rosa when she crossed into the path of a pickup truck, police said.

Kimberly Hughes, 33, was riding north in the outside lane of Mendocino Avenue around 6:30 a.m. when she turned left in front of a white Ford F-150 truck traveling in the same direction on the inside lane, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Hughes was turning west towards 10th Street when the truck, driven by Nathaniel Libeu, 33, of Rohnert Park, slammed into her, police said.

Officers noted that 10th Street is a one-way road and does not allow for westbound traffic from Mendocino Avenue. They said the cyclist was conscious and communicating with emergency responders at the scene.

Hughes was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries,.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call Officer Mike Mieger with the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at 543-3636.
