Cotati police arrest man with loaded gun, drugs
A check on a man sleeping in his car on a Cotati street early Tuesday landed the man in jail when officers found he had drugs and a loaded handgun, according to Cotati police.
Officer Brandon Mitchell spotted the man at about 1 a.m. in the vehicle parked on West Cotati Avenue and Olof Street, Cotati Lt. Bill French said.
The officer stopped to get a closer look and found the man asleep, with a methamphetamine pipe in one hand and a lighter in another, French said.
Mitchell arrested the man for the drug possession and searched the car, finding a loaded .45-caliber handgun under his seat and a small amount of methamphetamine, French said.
Suspect Rocky Lozano, 33, had a Rohnert Park address but told officers he was homeless. Officers arrested Lozano on suspicion of several felony and misdemeanor charges including possessing a gun in violation of a court order and possessing a gun and drugs.
Lozano was booked into the Sonoma County Jail where he remained Tuesday morning in lieu of $30,000 bail.
