Two teens were injured - one of them seriously - when a truck crashed into a motorcycle Sunday night in Clearlake.

Earl Vogt, 34, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and reckless driving, both felonies, following the 8:32 p.m. Sunday crash, police said in a news release.

Vogt was following a red Mustang through Clearlake in his 2005 Dodge Dakota when both drivers tried to pass a motorcycle on Phillips Avenue, crossing a double yellow line, police said. The motorcycle, carrying two 15-year-old boys, attempted to make a left turn onto 33rd Avenue and was struck by Vogt’s pickup truck, police said.

The impact threw the boys from the motorcycle. The passenger suffered major injuries and was flown to an unnamed hospital outside the county, police said. The driver was taken to St. Helena Hospital in Clearlake with moderate injuries, police said.

Vogt was uninjured. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, police said.

Three children were riding in the backseat of Vogt’s pickup truck at the time of the crash, police said.
