Fort Bragg man arrested on charge of assaulting deputy with garden hose

A Fort Bragg man is in custody on suspicion of assaulting a sheriff's deputy with a garden hose after a traffic stop, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

Alejandro Grijalba, 23, was the driver of a car that deputies pulled over May 15 at about 10:45 p.m because they said it had a false registration sticker, according to a statement released by the Sheriff's Ooffice.

Three other passengers were in the car when it was stopped at the 17000 block of Ocean Drive in Fort Bragg.

Deputies said they discovered that Grijalba was on felony probation and had a suspended and revoked driver's license. But when they attempted to arrest him, the statement said, he "became confrontational" and ran away from them.

He was pursued by one deputy who caught up with him when Grijalba took a garden hose and swung it over his head. He tried to strike the deputy with the hose, the statement said, but missed. Grijalba was able to run again and deputies were unable to find him that night.

A search of the vehicle turned up a concealed weapon under the driver's seat, the statement said, which violated Grijalba's probation.

On Saturday evening at about 6:30 p.m., deputies arrested Grijalba at a house on Oklahoma Lane in Fort Bragg.

They also arrested Cheyenne Specieday, 20, Christol Chiles, 38, and Luis Pineda, 21, all of Fort Bragg, on suspicion of concealing Grijalba's presence from deputies despite knowing he was wanted by authorities.

All three were also passengers in Grijalba's car May 15.

The four suspects were transported to the Mendocino County jail.

Grijalba's bail was set at $50,000 and the bail for Specieday, Chiles and Pineda was set at $15,000 each.
