A vegetation fire in a remote area of The Geysers geothermal area Sunday evening had fire officials worried about its potential spread.

Crews from several agencies were heading toward 14999 Big Geysers Road to help Cal Fire attack what by 9:15 p.m. had become a nearly 4-acre blaze, said Cal Fire Capt. Mike Heyfron.

“It has been a very hot, dry and windy day and we are concerned,” Heyfron said.

Engines from Geyserville, Healdburg and possibly Lake County were called to assist the single Cal Fire engine initially on scene, Heyfron said.

The location is a few miles west of where the Valley Fire, which killed four people, devoured 76,000 acres, destroyed about 1,250 homes and displaced thousands last fall, started as a small grass fire.

Additionally, firefighters were fighting a second Lake County fire near Indian Valley Reservoir, about seven miles southwest of Leesville. At 9 p.m. Sunday the fire had covered 20 acres.
