State offices, Sonoma County courts and Sonoma State University will be closed Monday to observe Cesar Chavez Day.
March 31 was the birthday of the farm labor leader, who died in 1993 at age 66.
Chavez's birthday has been a paid holiday for California state workers since 2001.
The labor leader founded the United Farm Workers to push for better pay and working conditions for agricultural laborers.
Schools, banks, stores and county and federal offices will be open. Transit, mail and trash pickup services are unaffected.
