ATV rider killed attempting to cross Highway 29 in Lake County

A 25-year-old man was struck and killed Thursday evening while trying to cross Highway 29 on an ATV, the CHP said|

A 25-year-old Florida man was killed in a traffic accident in Lake County on Thursday evening when tried to cross Highway 29 on an all-terrain vehicle, the CHP said.

The man, who has not been identified, who was riding a 2006 Yamaha ATV without a helmet, had stopped on the east shoulder just south of A Street near Lower Lake.

CHP officials said he attempted to cross Highway 29, directly into the path of a northbound 2010 Mazda traveling about 55 mph. The driver of the Mazda, which was carrying two passengers, was unable to stop in time and struck the ATV on the left side.

The Florida man suffered major injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died at 6:35 p.m.
