Two Santa Rosa men arrested in connection with an armed robbery in the Northern California city of Corning have been charged with with first-degree burglary with a person present, attempted first-degree residential robbery, and one is facing a special allegation of brandishing a firearm while committing a crime.
Ramiro Chavez-Lopez, 43, and Francisco Javier Lopez-Alvarado, 25, appeared in Tehama County Superior Court for arraignment on Monday, at which time they were formally charged and provided a public defender.
The men were arrested after Yajaira Bobadilla, 22, and Salvador Alcazar-Varelas, 26, told Tehama County sheriff's deputies two Hispanic men, one armed with a stainless steel revolver, the other wearing a black ski mask, forced their way into their home at 8:36 a.m. on Thursday, the Sheriff's Department reported.
The robbers ordered Bobadilla and Alcazar-Varelas to the ground at gunpoint, saying they were looking for a person named Ramon, before fleeing the area in a white 2012 Chevrolet Impala, the Sheriff's Department reported.
A California Highway Patrol officer saw a vehicle matching that of the wanted Impala traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near Sourgrass Road.
With help from additional CHP units, an enforcement stop was made on the Impala in the area of Road 3 and Highway 99W near Orland, the Sheriff's Department reported.
The two people in the car were identified as Chavez-Lopez and Lopez-Alvarado and arrested, the Sheriff's Department reported.
During a search of the vehicle, a stolen, loaded .38-caliber stainless steel pistol was reportedly seized, the Sheriff's Department reported.
Both men were in the Tehama County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon. Alvarado's bail set at $245,000, and Lopez's at $200,000.
