Fire burned a resort cabin, a garage and a wood pile in Kelseyville Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

Although the fire was ultimately contained to a small area, initial reports that the 10:45 a.m. blaze was spreading to vegetation led the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to broadcast a public warning that evacuations were underway at the Edgewater Resort and along Soda Bay Road.

The warning raised alarms for residents of Lake County, where fire-battered communities have been under siege by wildfires over the last two years.

Kelseyville Fire Chief Joe Huggins said he received calls all the way from Cobb from residents wondering if they should prepare to evacuate.

But firefighters from Kelseyville, Lakeport and Cal Fire quickly contained the blaze, which appeared to have started in or near a wood pile in a 30-foot space between an Edgewater cabin and the garage of an adjacent property, Huggins said. Crews stopped it from spreading to vegetation and an adjacent cabin.

“The crews did a great job. Those first two engines in, they kept it from expanding to the uninvolved cabin,” Huggins said. “There was a lot of heat with the wood pile.”
